UNDERSTANDING The SYSTEMS And MECHANISMS Of STUDYING!
2 Tim 2:15
AMP: Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.
There's a huge difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament as it relates to everything about life and our approach to the issues of life.
That difference is not a PRINCIPLE; it is clearly defined in the Epistles to be a PERSON. And I submit to you that, that PERSON is JESUS CHRIST!
John 1:17 For the law (Old Testament) was given by Moses, but grace and truth (New Testament) came by Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 9:15 And for this cause HE (JESUS CHRIST) is THE MEDIATOR of the NEW TESTAMENT, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the FIRST TESTAMENT (Old Testament), they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
That should be crystal clear by now. You see, when you study the Word, rather than ARGUE with it, simply ACCEPT it.
This is how we are expected to MATURELY respond to what the Spirit is saying to us through the Scriptures, as it pertains to JESUS CHRIST!
1 Thessalonians 2:13
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye RECEIVED THE WORD OF GOD which ye heard of us, ye received it NOT AS the word of men, BUT AS it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
Now, as it concerns STUDYING The Scriptures, you need to understand that the Old Testament approach is in juxtaposition to the New Testament system.
Under the Old Testament, they (the Israelites) were commanded to READ, but it's not really so under the New Testament because the admonition is to STUDY!
OLD TESTAMENT
Isaiah 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and READ: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
NEW TESTAMENT
2 Timothy 2:15 STUDY to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Why we STUDY, According To 2 Tim 2:15!!!
We STUDY to show ourselves approved to God
Acts 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the MINISTRY OF THE WORD.
Studying the Word is a calling; a ministry. And since it's a ministry, then we would do well to pay attention to what Apostle Paul said to Archippus:
Colossians 4:17 And say to Archippus, TAKE HEED TO THE MINISTRY which thou hast received in the Lord, THAT THOU FULFIL IT.
Failure for a New Creation will be very sure and inevitable if he or she refuses to study the Revelation of JESUS (Who He is, What He has accomplished for us and made available to us) because the devil will definitely play on his or her ignorance.
We study to prove that we are both READY and FIT for the Master's use.
We STUDY to escape public humiliation
Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, THAT YE MAY KNOW HOW YE OUGHT TO ANSWER every man.
As we follow JESUS, there will come a time when our own minds will question us. Life itself will question us. Situations will question us (Eg: "If the Lord is truly your shepherd as it is written how come you are broke?"). People (Family and Friends) who don't know what we know will question our FAITH IN JESUS. At that point what would we do? This is very important to take into consideration. Make studying the Finished Work of CHRIST your PLEASURABLE PRIORITY.
We study to prove that we are ready to confront a WORLD OF QUESTIONS with the WORD OF ANSWERS!
That's why Apostle Paul said:
Colossians 3:16 LET THE WORD OF CHRIST DWELL IN YOU RICHLY in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
We STUDY to rightly divide
Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye OUGHT TO BE TEACHERS, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to DISCERN BOTH GOOD AND EVIL.
We study to prove that we are equipped enough to DISSECT and DIFFERENTIATE between what is obtainable to and appropriate for the New Creation and what isn't!
For example, there's a group of "Christians" who believe they must go out barefoot anytime they wear their garment all because GOD commanded MOSES to take off his sandals.
If this is not ignorance and stupidity gone rampage then I wonder what else it is. It's a pity what we have allowed religion to do to the Body of Christ because most ministers are afraid to be persecuted for preaching the Revelation of JESUS CHRIST!
Let's Analyse It:
First, GOD spoke to MOSES alone, not every other person. The command was to MOSES alone.
Secondly, there was no other time GOD asked MOSES to take off his sandals.
Thirdly, this scenario transpired at Mount Sinai.
So if you are not Moses, or a Jew or presently located at Mount Sinai, you have no business going barefoot.
You see, these folks who still use the blood of goats and calves and pigeons to sanctify and purify their followers back up their "beliefs" quoting scriptures from the Old Testament. It's because they have not studied or been taught to rightly divide the Word of Truth. They don't know what is GOOD (OK) for them now that they are under GRACE and what isn't. It's a pity!
It's shameful and deplorable to see God's people go to Church just to swallow whatever EXPIRED drugs they are served all in the name of Christianity.
Now, See:
Colossians 4:16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
As simple as this verse is in writing, it is also a bit complicated if the Spirit does not open your eyes to its meaning. This verse is divided into THREE parts.
GROUP Study (DISCIPLESHIP)
"...when this epistle is read AMONG YOU..."
Acts 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
17:11 These were MORE NOBLE than those in Thessalonica, in that they RECEIVED the word with all readiness of mind, and SEARCHED the scriptures DAILY, WHETHER THOSE THINGS WERE SO. 17:12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
You need to have someone or some groups of people you sit together with, discussing the scriptures as it pertains to JESUS CHRIST and His Finished Work.
GENERAL Study (MEMBERSHIP)
"...cause that it be read also in the CHURCH of the Laodiceans..."
1 Corinthians 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, EVERY ONE of you HATH a psalm, hath a DOCTRINE, hath a tongue, hath a REVELATION, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
PERSONAL Study (LEADERSHIP)
"...and that YE LIKEWISE read the epistle from Laodicea."
Acts 26:24 And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; MUCH LEARNING doth make thee mad.
This verse proves that Apostle Paul personally studied a lot. And the evidence of this was seen in his ability to communicate effectively in matters that concerns JESUS CHRIST and His Finished Work.
2 Timothy 4:13 The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the BOOKS, but ESPECIALLY THE PARCHMENTS.
The MECHANISMS Of STUDYING
How DO You Handle STUDIES?
As You STUDY, Acknowledge The Ministry Of HOLY SPIRIT
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWN UNDERSTANDING. 3:6 In all thy ways ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, and HE SHALL DIRECT thy paths.
You can never trust in yourself or your fleshy and finite mind when it comes to interpreting scriptures as it should be interpreted. This is why you need the Holy Spirit.
John 16:13 Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.
As You STUDY, Be SENSITIVE
Be sensitive so as not to lose what you have been taught
Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
Be sensitive to TENSES and PHRASES
1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
For example, if you only knew that deliverance is a past tense reality for you who is now a believer in Christ Jesus, you wouldn't line up every day in confused churches asking confused pastors and prophets to conduct deliverance on you because you ate in the dream or slept with someone in the dream etc.
As You STUDY, STORE Your Discoveries
1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye KEEP IN MEMORY what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
As You STUDY, SPEAK Forth
Isaiah 8:20 To the law (Old Testament) and to the testimony (New Testament): if they SPEAK not ACCORDING to THIS WORD, it is because there is no light in them.
Acts 4:20 For we cannot but SPEAK the things which we have SEEN and HEARD.
As You STUDY, SHARE.
Matthew 10:27 What I tell you in darkness, that SPEAK YE IN LIGHT: and what ye hear in the ear, that PREACH YE UPON THE HOUSETOPS.
GOD BLESS YOU BY ALL MEANS IN JESUS NAME!
